Hi-life interview - July 2008
HI-LIFE: Back in Portugal. Did you miss our country?
SANDRA NASIC: Yes!
HI-LIFE: Very much.
SANDRA NASIC: Oh, very much. From the bottom of my heart. *laugh*
HI-LIFE: You’re very appreciated here, why do you think this happens?
SANDRA NASIC: Because you have a good music taste? *laugh* I don’t know, I’m sorry, I’m just kidding. Maybe because people here have sun inside their hearts somehow, I think. It’s different to the cold countries, you know? Where it’s always gray. I think people who always have the sun, also have the sun inside. They’re more open to music, and they feel music maybe a little bit different. I think, I don’t know, I’m not sure.
HI-LIFE: What’s the difference between working with a band and working as a solo artist?
SANDRA NASIC: When you are in a band, of course you are writing the music together, you’re doing everything together, the decisions are made together, it’s always very democratic, and I think this is the main difference to now. Because of course now I make the decisions by myself, by my own, and I write my songs, I write the lyrics and I play the instruments. I have the responsibility in the studio with the musicians. It’s totally different but it’s really important.
HI-LIFE: What inspires you to write a song?
SANDRA NASIC: It’s what I do, you know? I think every human being has one thing or one talent, and you should do that. And I think my big passion is music, and this is what I do. I always did.
HI-LIFE: Has your CD got a main subject, or is it a collection of memories?
SANDRA NASIC: It’s a collection of situations and it’s a collection of the present. And some songs are basically about closing the door to the past, and other songs go in a totally different direction, you could say they are more sexy. Like ‘Mecasanova’ for example, there’s a song like that. I play as a woman, as a girl with those things. And this may be also a very big difference to the Guano Apes things, because this was always about fun and aggression, and, I don’t know, kick ass… can I say that here? *laugh* Kick ass. And now it’s… Well I also like to kick asses on my record, but I also have other things to write, you know? Girl things, I love to write about men! *laugh* It’s really mixing right now, everything.
HI-LIFE: I’ve realised that you don’t want to talk about the past. What about the future? What are your expectations for your career?
SANDRA NASIC: You see, I also don’t like to talk about the future. I always like to talk about the present. *laughing* I’m so sorry for you, Bruno!
*ending part*
SANDRA NASIC: Hi, this is Sandra Nasic and you’re watching Hi-Life with me and the most beautiful man of this country, Bruno. *laugh*
